Rotarians and Countryside Interact Club members bought and wrapped presents for fifteen IMG_4870underprivileged kids this Christmas.

Rotary provides Interacters with $100 per child and they shop for gifts which are then wrapped by both clubs at the Mattie Williams Neighborhood Family Center.

This fun event is another way Rotary serves the community.

Successful Thanksgiving Dinner for Seniors and Shut-ins

IMG_4809Safety Harbor Rotarians and Countryside High School Interact Club members served free Thanksgiving dinner to more than seventy seniors.  This annual event took place at the First Baptist Church of Safety Harbor and was supported in part by the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa which provided napkins and table cloths.

Mike Stafford Explains the Water Project

Assistant District Governor Mike Stafford took us on a tour of Freeport including the water project created by Rotary.  It is a reverse osmosis process which can produce 7,000 gallons of water per hour.  The club also has 6 trailers specifically designed to deliver 450 gallons of water to any neighborhood in need.

The following day both clubs assisted Outreach Youth Ministry prepare and serve meals.  The ministry had sold 1,000 meals which included chicken, ribs and fish with rice and other side dishes at $10 a piece.  We cooked, assembled utensils and helped out as asked.  Safety Harbor Rotarians are enthusiastic about “borrowing” the idea to benefit our charities.

Mayor Andy Steingold Addresses Safety Harbor Rotary

Many thanks to Mayor Andy Steingold for filling in at the last moment to replace a scheduled speaker who was unable to attend the Rotary breakfast meeting yesterday.  The mayor was inadvertently introduced by Sergeant at Arms Harry Rabb by the wrong last name sparking hilarious jabs from Rotarians.  At least six people used happy bucks to thank the mayor for being there – all with different and incorrect surnames.

City of Safety Harbor Mayor Andy Steingold

City of Safety Harbor Mayor Andy Steingold

Taking the good-natured ribbing in stride, Mayor Andy discussed the latest news in Safety Harbor including property taxes, employee raises, Marshall Street church access, and plans for the newly acquired property behind the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa on Tampa Bay.  He was kind enough to stay beyond his prepared remarks for a question and answer session. Thanks again Andy!
