Interact students install bedding at the Sheriffs Youth Ranch

Dear Rotary Club of Safety Harbor,

Thank you so very much for inviting Reed Rue and me to speak at your meeting on May 17th!  It is always wonderful to get an opportunity to talk about the changes at the Sheriff’s Youth Ranch and let the community know what its needs are.

Big, BIG things have happened since we were there!!  Due to the amazing generosity of Rotary members, the ranch was able to purchase the mattress covers for ALL of their new beds!!!  That was very exciting for  the children, the house parents and everyone else living at the ranch.

However, getting the mattress covers created another problem.   The ranch has only one, very overworked handy man.  How in the world would we get all of these beds covered?   A big thank you to Bob McClure who suggested the Interact Club at Countryside High School!!!   I got in touch with Jacob Grimm, this year’s President, and on  the following Saturday, Jacob, his dad and three other members of the club showed up to help.   We we able to haul out and dispose of ten mattresses and box springs, haul in the ten new mattresses and box springs, cover  all twenty pieces  with the new covers and put them in place.

We finished one out of three cottages that day and the students have committed to coming back and doing the other two cottages.

The old mattresses were so flat and broken down and the new mattresses are so fluffy and glorious that I have heard that there was some joyous jumping happening at bedtime!!!  I am so grateful!  Absolutely none of this joy would have been possible without the Rotary Club.  I thank you so very much!!

Very best regards,

Beth Veakis
