Rotarian Marcie Falco presents Library Director Lisa Kotke with childrens books

Lisa Kotke, the Director of the Safety Harbor Public Library spoke at yesterday’s Rotary meeting at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa.  Speakers are normally presented with a certificate promising that a child’s book will be donated to the library in his or her honor.  For the second time within a year, Rotary has given these books to Lisa in support of this custom.

Since June 2011 Lisa has served as the Director of the Safety Harbor Public Library.  From 2008-2011, she was the head of Adult and Reference Services at the Library.  Prior to Safety Harbor, she worked in the Hillsborough and Clearwater Library Systems.  Before changing her career to librarianship she was a project manager with EDS and a vice president in Technology and Operations at Bank of America.  Lisa is an alumnus of University of South Florida (MLIS) and University of Rhode Island, where she received her BA in Journalism and Marketing. She is a former chair on the Safety Harbor Relay for Life, Reflections chair at Countryside High PTSA, and former board member of the Safety Harbor Middle School PTSA.

More than 100 people turned out Saturday night for the First Annual Sip and Suds Pub Crawl jointly sponsored by the Rotary Club of Safety Harbor and the Safety Harbor Chamber of Commerce.  After meeting at the Gazebo on Main Street, attendees split into eight groups and spent three hours moving from one emporium to another.

Established in early 1975, The Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch in Safety Harbor was the third residential child care program established by the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches, Inc.  The Youth Ranch campus consists of an administration building, multi-purpose activity center, swimming pool, maintenance building, chapel and three cottages. The Youth Ranch has the capacity for 30 youth in three spacious cottages.

JonathanBrewer2Jonathan Brewer is the Founder and President of EarthWorks Environmental Incorporated of Odessa, Florida. Mr. Brewer is the inventor while EarthWorks is the developer and manufacturer of “METS” the Matrix Enhanced Treatment System for the ex-situ treatment of organic and inorganic contaminated soils.

Mr. Brewer is degreed in Hydro and Pyrometalurgy and is a Certified Environmental Inspector (CEI), Certified Environmental Specialist (CES) as well as one of the first designated as a Certified Remedial Specialist (CRS) and is a currently Licensed Environmental Professional (LEP). Mr. Brewer is a past Advisory Director of the Environmental Assessment Association and is a current member of the Florida Environmental Assessment Association.

Jonathan has been a member of the California League of Cities as well as the Urban Land Institute. Mr. Brewer has held the appointed positions of Project Review and Design Review Commissioner with the City of Roseville in California and is currently an elected Community Development District Supervisor in Pasco County, Florida.

The METS technology received the prestigious “Most Innovative Technology Award” from the University of California at Davis as well as the “Special Recognition Award” from BERC in Sacramento. The METS technology is recognized as a unique technology and as such has received a US Patent as both a process and apparatus.

In the past, EarthWorks has utilized its METS processors for demonstrations and small commercial projects, however our current focus is to train our licensees and get the technology in the hands of end users for commercial use as quickly as possible.

Jonathan has just completed a medical mission trip with his wife Anne to Guatemala. Jonathan will be the President of the Rotary Club of Safety Harbor, Florida in 2013-2014.
